Forest School Day is an annual celebration day that connectsshares, and celebrates everything great and wonderful about forest school. As part of the international Forest School network, Learning In Nature invites you to take part in this festive day and celebrate 8th of October

Celebrations the forest school values way

In the northern hemisphere October is a great time to be out in the woods. There should be a special word for the first fire of the season we should celebrate it as part of the changing seasons.

Celebrations bring us together. It allows time to pause, relax and laugh out loud at the antics of what being outside at Forest school brings. Time to reflect about where we have come from and how far we have travelled.

Forest School Day does just that. Its core message is to celebrate, share and connect with people. People brought together though the experience of Forest School. Wherever in the world you are!

Forest School day in its fourth year has grown and grown each year. Last year going international for the first time! It is easy for all to take part.

Your Forest School Day celebration can be as big or as small as you like. You can use it to shout about what your forest school offer or use it to have a cup of tea around the fire and chat. You don’t even have to be doing Forest School right now to be able to join in it is for all supporters.  Forest School has been around for over 25 years.  We are entering a second generation of Forest Schoolers which is great news.

3rd of May is the International Day of Forest Kindergartens

3rd of May is International Forest Kindergartens Day. We share with you greetings from the ambassadors of the children of nature: Sowing hope and giving joy many times over.

A 5 day Children In Permaculture course will be taking place in Aberdeenshire, Scotland this April 2020. This in depth course which will give participants a toolbox of ways to engage children in permaculture using a holistic, creative approach which involves children in the whole process as a partner in their learning. It is for people who have attended the CiP two day training course and for permaculture designers working with children.

Trainers: Gaye Amus and Lusi Alderslowe

  • Dates: 23-28 April 2020

  • Place: Tangleha, Aberdeeshire, UK

  • Time: Thursday-Wednesday between 9.30-16.30. Sunday half day.

This internationally recognised 5 day course along with a portflio after the course enables the participants to become a Children In Permaculture (CIP) Practioner. It is also a prerquisite to the next stage curse of becoming a CIP trainer.

About the Authors

LUSI ALDERSLOWE has been engaging children in permaculture in formal, non-formal and informal settings around Scotland since 2005. As an international permaculture diploma tutor and permaculture teacher she has students around Europe. Lusi co-founded and led a unique outdoor playgroup and an after-school Forest School group. She is a mother of two, a Forest School Leader, a human ecologist and co-founder and coordinator of the Children in Permaculture project for the Permaculture Association and Gatehouse School.

GAYE AMUS is an environmental educator specialized in early childhood education and is based in Helsinki, Finland. She has had 12 years experience working in kindergartens including a Rain or Shine nature kindergarten in Finland. She is currently training educators internationally, contributing in conferences, giving seminars and consultation in nature pedagogy and outdoor education. Gaye initiated the nature movement for kindergartens and primary schools in Turkey in 2015 with Forest Schools and Forest Kindergarten Leader trainings. She pioneered and co-founded the Children in Permaculture project.

DIDI A. DEVAPRIYA, (a.k.a. Denise Deshaies or simply “Didi”) is a leader and international trainer in the Neohumanist Education movement, which aims to nurture an ecological, inclusive and compassionate worldview from the early years. She has directed nursery, kindergarten and afterschool programs since 2001 and authored the Neohumanist Education Early Childhood Curriculum for Romania. Didi has written numerous articles, and travels to train educators in Holland, USA, Lebanon, Australia and Italy as well as in Romania, where she has been based since 2005. She is also a founding member of the Association for Neohumanist Education in Romania.
