Erasmus+ funded Supernatural Learning Environments project
Erasmus + "SuperNatural - Nature as an inclusive learning environment" project (2022-2-SK01-KA210-SCH-000094563) is coordinated by OZ Letokruhy poznania (Slovakia) March 2023- March 2025. Learning In Nature Ltd (Finland) is a partner of this project.
SUPERNATURAL is an international project between Slovak forest clubs and Finnish nature kindergartens supported by the Erasmus plus programme.
WHAT IS OUR GOAL?
One of the objectives of this project is to start a project in order to support inclusion of children in the early years especially those with fewer opportunities into the educational process of forest clubs/kindergartens. This will be achieved by a sustainable development of high quality early childhood education activities and by the development of key competences of pre-school children and the educators in forest kindergartens.
Another important objective of this project is to create safe “SuperNatural” environments for kindergarten children with learning difficulties and include them into the school preparation process in a more child centred way of a safe natural environment, which is less stressful for them.
OBJECTIVES/ RESULTS:
- Prepared a guide for teachers, parents, policy makers called SuperNatural handbook for children in forest kindergartens and educational centres based in nature. The handbook serves as a practical resource for educators, therapists, and facilitators who wish to effectively connect education with nature and an inclusive approach.
• This handbook provides methodological guidelines and practical tools for implementing environmental and inclusive educational activities in nature. It includes tested approaches for integrating children with special needs into outdoor learning, emphasizing sensory perception, intuitive games, and experiential methods. The chapters cover theoretical foundations, best practice examples, and specific activity proposals that foster ecological awareness and community cohesion.
• It is created as an outcome of the project which can be downloaded in 3 languages (English,Finnish and Slovakian)
ACTIVITIES:
- Teacher training event in Slovakia by Gaye Amus and Johanna Saunamäki on “Nature for Children with Special Needs”
- Building a Supernatural Environment in practice in Slovakia
- Study Visit in Finland organised by Learning In Nature
- Meeting and Presentation of the Supernatural Learning Environments project. The program combines educational sessions, practical workshops, and discussions, highlighting the importance of connecting with nature and inclusive education. Participants will engage in intuitive games, experiential activities in nature, and forest sauna sessions, inspired by a study visit to Finland. The meeting will result in a set of recommendations for further work with target groups, an assessment of the financial sustainability of the clubs, and the strengthening of international cooperation in the field of environmental and inclusive education.
